Third Street
HGOR was retained by the Macon Urban Development Authority to create a vision for the historic half-mile long stretch of Third Street, which despite linear median parks and celebrated cherry trees, was under-performing and underutilized.
The proposed vision plan was intentionally pedestrian oriented by eliminating a second travel lane in lieu of on-street parking, narrowing pedestrian crosswalks, and creating a series of roundabouts that organized vehicular traffic.
Street trees were proposed to promote pedestrian comfort along the commercial facades and the linear parks were re-designed to provide multi-functional uses to stimulate activity in the district.
